The reason of why relevancy directly impacts ranking strength
In the article “What is a Contextual Link“, I discussed a story from my experience where I explained a case of link building in which I targeted the keyword “product delivery”. The client was providing physical deliveries, but the context of the text where I added the links was about digital product deliveries. After some time, we lost positions in the SERP. So, targeted keywords can be the same for X and Y projects, but relevancy is a must, and context is king in this scenario.
Why is relevant content and link building impacting ranking strength?
Google measures the behavior of users, and if your user clicks the link and goes out immediately, you can say Goodbye to your positions. Search intent is the thing you should know, not to repeat the mistakes of others in this case. We can say that the main reason is the bounce rate. Other things are results. A bad bounce rate signals that this page is not what users search for. So, in short, relevancy is a must to have a correct user experience, and follow Google algorithms to be competitive in your niche. Once you rank, you get traffic, once you get traffic, you have sales.
What if you have non-relevant backlinks?
If your backlinks are not relevant to your target pages, this can hurt your SEO, and the links obtained from that platform can be considered spammy. However, if you notice someone adds your link in a non-relevant way, you should rather disavow them. This will be a signal to Google that your page is not connected with the added live link.
How to check the search intent
There are 2 options you can check. Use these methods not to harm your rankings.
Search your target keyword in Google
Let’s search for “search intent”. You see that the results are blog articles, so it means the search intent is informational.
Use tools
I use the Ahrefs keyword explorer tool. Once you sign in, you can notice the intents section on it. You can search for your keywords, choosing even the location, and apply the types of intents. Then Ahrefs will generate those intent types of keywords connected with your searched keyword.
Conclusion
Yes, it is true. Relevancy directly impacts ranking strength. Just research the search intent of your keywords and create relevant pages for them.
